The effect of a metal barrel on the efficiency of a coilgun is investigated by measuring the inductance of a coil fitted to a metal tube in various configurations and comparing the results with the inductance of the same coil without a conductive core. The results of measurements at various frequencies and the corresponding speeds of motion of the projectile accelerated by the coilgun are presented.

This article bases on results of experiments conducted when EM-2 and EM-3 coilguns were being constructed. Their purpose was to  obtain accelerated body (projectile), optimal for portative electromagentic accelerators. Besides, I had to do some caluclations and Web data retrieval. The findings of those investigations are presented.
